Call for Submissions
Here at The Silver Tongue, we welcome outside submissions. If something that interests you happens in the world, we want to read and publish your take on it.
Like our “About the Blog” page says, we started this project as a means of using all that fancy book learnin’ we got for the public good, and as a way of showing friends and family what it is, exactly, that we do as scholars. To that end, while many of our contributors are graduate students or others involved in academia, we welcome submissions from anyone looking to write for us and share in those goals. We do, however, require that your submission have some sort of basis in some sort of expertise that allows you to offer a perspective that readers wouldn’t find in other sorts of commentary/analysis. Most of our submissions draw on rhetorical or linguistic theory, but we are certainly open to work drawing on other fields in the humanities.
Remember, though, this theoretical or scholarly basis for your argument is a key part of what we do, but it’s not something we want to take center stage in the actual text of our articles. Think about it this way: we’re trying to use our expertise to offer thoughtful explanations of things that happen in the world, not to use things that happen in the world as a means to argue something theoretical. Oftentimes, academic writing strives to do both of those things at once, but at The Silver Tongue, we focus exclusively on the former as a means of making our theoretical expertise accessible and useful to a general audience.
We’ve got a few additional guidelines for submissions:
- Submissions should be under 1000 words.
- Hyperlinks and references should be embedded in the text of the article.
- Use the “If You Want To Know More” section at the end of the article to direct your readers to the scholarly/theoretical works that influenced your thinking.
- You’ll need a WordPress account for your byline, so please make one before submitting. If you’ve already got one, make sure your byline displays your full name.
Please send all submissions to silvertonguetimes [at] gmail [dot] com. We’ll be in touch shortly afterwards with info about if/when we’ll post it, and any revisions we require before it’s ready to go.
